Smooth Jazz And Wine – Keel & Curley Winery

Keel and Curley Winery was started in spring of 2003 in the kitchen of founder and owner, Joe Keel. Keel, a central Florida blueberry farmer wanted to find something to do with his end of crop blueberries. As in most produce farming, once the market price reaches a price which is lower than harvest and sale commissions, farms stop harvesting their crops. At this time in the season, there are still a lot of quality blueberries on the bushes. So Keel asked himself, “what can I do with this perfectly good fruit, to use it in a productive way and not waste it? Jellies, jams, blueberry pies? No!”

Keel decided blueberry wine would be interesting to dabble with in the family farm house kitchen. He started that spring of 2003 with 10 gallons of blueberry wine. The wine came out so-so, but drinkable. So he made 10 more gallons and it got better each time. So was the beginning of a company he started with production of over 20,000 cases of quality wines that the company produces to this day.

Keel and Curley Winery, produces three types of Blueberry wines, each with a very distinct taste. The first is a sweet wine, the second, a semi-dry or semi-sweet wine, and the third, a dry wine. All three wines are made from 100% blueberries.

In July, 2011, Keel & Curley debuted two new wines – Dry Blackberry and Sweet Blackberry. Both are made with 100% blackberries.

This winery is also the place for smooth jazz music.  Next group will be the Robert Harris Band. This formation is one of the premier Jazz / R&B groups in central Florida. Robert has performed at several National Jazz Festivals and Concerts with his central Florida based group and plays at least a dozen Jazz festivals in the state each year.

Smooth Jazz And Wine – Kokopelli Winery and Bistro

He is distinguished by his hump back and flute, but his legend is still being deciphered by all who read about him. Kokopelli is a mythical character of many attributions. He was known as a traveler who played his flute for the villagers to hear. He was a story teller to the villagers and would tell them of his great travels. He was a fertility god because whenever he came to town women who wanted to bear fruit were suddenly fruitful. He was also known as being an agriculture god that he bore a seed sack (distinguishing his humpback) and that he was the bearer of a green thumb. Everyone has their own beliefs to each legend; however, the one that helped down pick the name was….well all of them.

When Don was looking to produce the first batch of wine he knew that he needed a name. He wanted something that was catchy that was South Western with an Italian flair. This is when he and Carol came up with the idea of Kokopelli. Don found that when he started researching that he had picked the absolute best name for the winery.

“I enjoyed all of the different legends that Kokopelli had, but the way I see it they really are all one legend,” Don said, “Each legend also played a part in what we were trying to accomplish through our winery.”

Since the winery was so far away Don and Carol wanted people to know they were coming they didn’t have a flute to play; however, they did have great wine to share. Don and Carol had also had an amazing adventure growing, harvesting, and producing the grapes that they also had great stories to tell of their experience. Now Don was definitely no fertility god; however, all the ladies were quite fond of him. “It just comes with the job and being so handsome,” Don says while Carol looks on and laughs. Probably the most truthful legend of all that fits Don and Carol is the agriculture god. With the support of family and friends they now bore green thumbs for growing and producing grapes.

So whatever legend you may choose, enjoy it while you have a great glass of Kokopelli wine (we think Kokopelli had something to do with it)! There’s smooth jazz, Latin jazz, swing jazz, and other types, sometimes crossing over into each other and into other categories of music. Kokopelli Winery is Arizona’s largest and most decorated winery.

Smooth Jazz And Wine – Vino Piazza Winery

Spend the day at this converted 1940s distillery and explore the nooks and crannies, plazas and courtyards, wine-tasting rooms and food vendors that make up this most unusual visitors’ center.

Vino Piazza, translated from Italian, means “the wine plaza”. Twelve wineries are represented here, and are owned and operated independently, each with their own unique approach to winemaking. The spaces themselves are worth the investigation, as some reside in the old “vat rooms” while others are in the ancient boiler rooms.

The landlords are the owners of the Olde Lockeford Winery, and they also have a very worthwhile fossil and minerals exhibit, including giant research-quality caste replicas of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Triceratops. There is plenty to explore and plenty of wine available to taste. Each winery has its own tasting schedule.

Sax And The City with Jessy J, Marion Meadows and Paul Taylor is coming to the city of Lockeford, CA this weekend,
Saturday, June 9, 2012 7:00 pm. Taste the wine and enjoy the music.

Smooth Jazz And Wine – Raphael Vineyards

The Petrocelli Family strives to produce Long Island’s greatest wines, incorporating both New World advances and Old World traditions. They are located on the North Fork of Long Island where the gentle maritime influence of the surrounding water provides a moderate climate allowing our grapes to fully ripen, achieving perfect balance, aroma, and flavor. Using sustainable vineyard practices, hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation and a natural winemaking philosophy, Raphael produces hand-crafted wines that reflect a pure expression of the unique climate and soil of the North Fork.

The winemaking philosophy is based on an understanding of the cycle of nature, the climate and soil, the ripeness of the grapes and the success of time-honored techniques. Utilizing gravity flow and a natural winemaking philosophy, Raphael wines are produced sustainably, utilizing spontaneous fermentation with little fining and filtration resulting in wines that purely express our local terroir. Their goal is to produce ripe, fruit-driven wines that exhibit a marriage of depth, finesse, elegance, and balance – the flavors of the North Fork – provided first by the terroir and secondly, by the dedicated, impassioned attention of our own hands.

The winery was designed by John Petrocelli who was inspired by the Italian monasteries of his ancestral home. Their production facility blends classic Mediterranean architecture with modern winemaking equipment. By building the winery 12 feet underground they are not only able to make their wines using a gentle gravity-flow method, but were able to construct a very energy efficient building using the earth’s natural 55F temperature to cool the winery in the summer and warm it in the winter.

The Raphael Vineyards will offer a new season of jazz series soon!

Smooth Jazz And Wine – Bedell Cellars

Bedell Cellars is a 30-year-old sustainably farmed and family owned estate vineyard and winery making some of the most critically acclaimed wines from the North Fork of Long Island appellation.

Cementing Bedell’s reputation as the benchmark producer from the Long Island winegrowing region, The New York Times proclaimed, “Bedell has consolidated its status as a world-class estate,” and Wine Business Monthly named Bedell to its list of the Top 10 Hottest Small Brands in the world. Bedell’s flagship red blend, Musée, received 91 points from Wine Spectator, the highest score this publication has ever awarded to a red wine from Eastern North America.

Bedell has been owned since 2000 by Michael Lynne, an esteemed art collector and film executive who was Executive Producer of The Lord of the Rings trilogy among many others. The business has been led for the past 10 years by its CEO Trent Preszler, a Cornell graduate considered to be one of the most ambitious leaders in the New York wine industry, who also serves on the Board of Directors of WineAmerica. Bedell’s Winemaker, 30-year veteran Rich Olsen-Harbich, wrote the North Fork of Long Island appellation into existence in 1986, and is the only Winemaker in Eastern North America to use entirely indigenous yeasts as part of a holistic natural winemaking program. Complementing this 30-year tradition with a critically acclaimed Artist Series, dynamic management team, and some of the oldest grapevines in the region, Bedell exists at the forefront of creativity and excellence in the modern American wine industry.

The Bedell facility is unmatched regionally for its sophistication. The new state-of-the-art winery was completed in 2005 and boasts custom designed open-top fermenting tanks and a gravity-driven regime to minimize pumping and filtering. The Tasting Room is housed in a renovated potato barn originally built in 1919, and it showcases the world class contemporary art collection of owner Michael Lynne, featuring works over the past decade by Cindy Sherman, Chuck Close, Barbara Kruger, Eric Fischl, Sam Taylor Wood, Uta Barth and Sarah Morris. Smooth Jazz And Wine – Young’s

Young’s is one of the first vineyards you come to after turning onto Shenandoah Road in Plymouth. Over the years they have become an essential stop for a growing group of enthusiastic fans of their celebrated Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah, Sangiovese and Barbera. Young’s also offers a superb Roussanne. “Young’s Barbera is best in class,” says Rocklin landscape designer Scott Jardine. “All their wines are top drawer – they rival anything out of the Napa Valley.” Scott and several of his friends have been making annual jaunts to Shenandoah Valley to buy their favorite Young’s wine by the case.

When they purchased the Property in 1992, there was an operating winery producing 1,000 cases of wine with seven acres of grapes. Today, production has increased to 6,000 cases and the place has expanded to 30 acres, including 10 acres of lawns, gardens and picnic grounds surrounding a tranquil pond. In this year’s “Best of Summer” special section, the Sacramento Bee named Young’s the Number One picnic area in the entire greater Sacramento area!

The beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley of Amador County is one of the oldest non-Spanish farming communities in California. The easy gold found early during the Gold Rush soon was exhausted and the miners realized that their fortune would more likely be made in a more traditional manner – farming. Grapes were planted as early as the 1850s and the valley’s reputation for “liquid gold” has been growing since.

This vineyard will be the venue for a great smooth jazz event. Superstars of Smooth Jazz shining for the stars of FEAT. Rock’in the Vineyard 2012 presents Steve Oliver and the Producers Paul Brown and Darren Rahn. Visit this vineyard Saturday June 16, 2012 for a great feast!
