At Baker’s keyboard lounge, come and enjoy traditional jazz, great atmosphere and feel like you just stepped back in history. In the late thirties, Clarence had installed himself as entertainment director, and began booking solo pianist into Baker’s. Suddenly, there were lines outside the door. What began as a neighborhood spot serving steaks and chops, now, was a little jazz club.
In March of 2011 the club was purchased by Hugh Smith, a former manager, and Eric Whitaker, a retired General Motors Engineer. They have begun to revitalize Baker’ s with noticeable improvements to the interior and exterior since they purchased the jazz icon from Colbert. The improvements include new stage and sound system, new flooring, new roof, and updates to the kitchen. The new owners are also pursuing bringing in national acts, continued updates to the interior and exterior of the building, and the commitment to continual improvements towards quality delivery of service to it’s customers.
